Michael Johnson

As London hosts the 2012 Olympics, we are proud to welcome Michael Johnson as keynote speaker at the Advantage Conference.

Michael Johnson is the best 200/400 metre sprinter in the history of track and field. He is a four-time Olympic Gold medalist, nine-time World Champion and a world record holder. Michael represented the United States in three Olympic Games: Barcelona 1992 winning gold in the 4x400 metre relay, Atlanta 1996 winning gold at 200 metres and 400 metres, and Sydney 2000 winning gold again at 400 metres.

During his career Michael broke world records in the 200 metres, 400 metres, and 4x400 metres relay. He became known as the Fastest Man in the World in 1996 when completing the historic 200/400 metre Olympic double running 23 mph en route to his 200-metre world record performance of 19.32 seconds. Michael added the 400-metre world record in 1999 clocking 43.18 seconds.

Since his retirement from competitive track in 2000, Michael has become a successful television commentator for BBC Sport and the Olympics as well as being a regular contributor to the sports section of The Times. He is the author of Slaying the Dragon: How to Turn Your Small Steps to Great Feats, an inspirational book where he reveals his personal blueprint for achievement and explains how to turn defeats and setbacks into successes. In autumn 2011 he released his second book, Gold Rush, a compelling analysis of the psychological and personal qualities, as well as internal and external factors, that go into creating an Olympic champion.

Michael has applied the lessons learned during his successful athletic career to business ventures including the Michael Johnson Performance Center, where he trains upcoming and professional athletes.
